Youth for equality Rocks and Mandal commission sucks.........

" RESERVATIONS SHOULD BE ON THE BASIS OF NEED, NOT ON THE BASIS OF CASTE AND CREED " - Rajiv goswami,DU, first student to attempt self-immolation to protest against reservations.

1980: Mandal commission's report was submitted.
1989: Government under the Prime Minister V.P. singh implemented the Mandal commission 's recommendations.
1990: Rajiv Goswami's act of self- immolation in protest against reservation.
24th February 2004: Rajiv Goswami expires.
But the trauma of reservation still looms large over the Indians.

Where should I start from???? All this is too big a issue..
Well, I ll start with the lines by Rajiv goswami, coz these are the lines which first caught my attention and forced me to think about quota and reservations.. I ll be very frank on the issue..

RESERVATIONS SHOULD BE ON THE BASIS OF NEED, NOT ON THE BASIS OF CASTE AND CREED . Rajiv Goswami said this. Who was Rajiv goswami??? History will remember him as the first person to take matters into his own hands after VP singh changed the course of Indian Educational system and put a full stop to the careers of many a bright students by acting on the report of the Mandal commission and increasing the quota to 27%. He attempted self-immolation. Though he survived it, he was plagued by other problems after that and he finally departed on 24th feb 2004.. I ll say thanks Heaven for that, coz now he is in a place where there are no reservations, no quotas and people go there on merit basis... GOD BLESS YOU RAJIV!!! WHAT YOU DID FOR US IS SOMETHING WE CAN'T DO EVEN FOR OURSELVES, LET ALONE OTHERS...

For me Rajiv is like any other student. He is You, me or any and every other youngster who is a graduate or an undergraduate. And that's why what he said touches my heart. It is so simple yet it is the underlying logic that should be adopted to eliminate reservations..

Why was reservation introduced??? Coz after independence there was a certain section of society who were socially and economically backward.. I beg to differ here. They were socially backward coz they were economically backward would be the right thing to say.. So , it was decided that seats would be reserved for them in colleges and jobs , so that they can eliminate their poverty and thus raise their social level... SO, WHAT IS THE CATCH HERE??? THE CATCH IS THE RESERVATION WERE INTRODUCED SO THAT ECONOMICALLY BACKWARD PEOPLE COULD EARN WELL AND COULD MAKE SURE THAT THEIR COMING GENERATIONS WOULD BE WELL OFF.........

So now that you have got the catch let us look at the present day scenario, i.e, 50 years down the line. Those people which were identified as OBCs are pretty well off. And even if they are not then what difference does that make. I mean, is every single person in the General category rich or affluent??? Is there no middle class or lower class???? And going by the catch we had identified earlier, shouldn't these people also be given reservations in premier institutes and in jobs????? Why is that a certain section of the society, who are not as economically backward as they were 50 years earlier , be given these privileges and why not to those people who ( fortunately and unfortunately )happen to fall in the general category?? ........

"WE ARE PROUD TO BE BACKWARD" (AND WE HAVE PROOF OF IT)
Where in the world do you see people who are proud to be backward;where people are ready to show you the proof of their backwardness to get admissions in premier institutes and otherwise they can drag you to court of law for calling them with names which depict their backwardness; where people just refuse to let go of this "backward"tag and image because they get privileges for being so called "backward class"....
It is as much our government's fault as much theirs. They give these so called "backward" classes reservations not only in premier institutes and jobs but at small level also. There are reservations in college hostels!!!!!!!!!!!!! And why in the Gods name should a student belonging to these backward classes get 5 books in the book bank of their college unlike general quota students who get 3 ( In spite of the fact that a very low percentage of these backward classes students have the ability to complete their degree;others just quit or keep take years and years to complete it ).. I mean this is preposterous..

I certainly agree with you. The whole system of reservations is sure very unfair to the meritorious students. This whole issue if govt. validates by stating that these particular group of people were victims of a social system centuries ago does no more than make revenge a state policy. The revenge for a past which is no doing of a meritorious student. What if this meritorious student is as much or far less economically unprivileged as the reserved ones.Let us take a practical example. Some of the reserved category students in my class carry with them mobiles and other accessories which even me, a general category student, can't easily afford. So where is the need for providing them privileges over some meritorious students. Is this the present on which we are building the future of this country??? If so then lo, behold the future where i do not see any social or economic parity as promised. The meritorious are unemployed. The MIGs are falling, the DRDO is not performing, the ISRO is handicapped. There is a severe derth of eligible teachers. who will train young minds to be meritorious??? There are no good scientists left.who will inspire young minds??? There are no good doctors.who will save young lives??? The reason 'they' demand, don't they and why should 'they' not, for what I say is blasphemy, huh? The meritorious who have toiled have moved out... to greener pastures 'they' add with envy. Why do 'they' turn green, its not the greener pastures they are after. Its just that the places they have moved out to are not indifferent to talent, they do not degenerate them to second class citizens of their nation as this country does to its very own. The green colour we were talking about, is it b'cos 'they' can't reach there.
and 'they' complain of brain drain....what a sham(e).

Rajiv Goswami, is no more. By no more i mean him being no more a mere individual. He has grown into an ideology. The govts. now can not claim to be of,for and by the ppl.Look at the huge percentage of citizens who abstain from voting. We are them and We all no more believe in a political system which supports these activies, no more do we have any faith in this constitution or do we respect the makers of same which harbours these laws, no more are we proud as being.....indians.

This is the gravest truth of our so called technically developing ( some would even try to call it advanced ) nation. Being a student civil engineering it sends chill down my spine when I imagine people from these so called backward classes building bridges or other major structures which have an impact on human lives... I am not saying that everyone of them is bad, no may be not, but majority of these students are pathetic, so much so that most of them don't even complete their degree and the seats are left vacant. Those seats for which the students of general category toil hard for months n some even for years but are rejected coz they dont have a certificate saying "I AM AN SC\ST\OBC , SO I HAVE THE RIGHT TO THESE SEATS EVEN IF I DON'T DESERVE IT"....

A quota student might think here that we have something against them. NO, this not the case. We have nothing against students belonging to SC\ST\OBC. Infact I gel along many such students, infact one of my closest friends in my first year was a quota student. Its just that we HATE RESERVATIONS, and if these students get admissions on merit basis then who would have any problem??? Nobody....

When it comes to quota it is pretty clear that all this is a result of bloody votebank politics. In fact I would say that our constitution were far more intelligent and concerned towards the country. When quota was introduced in the constitution it was done with the clause that it has to be ABOLISHED in due course of time. Forget about that these parliamentarians are interested in increasinggg it.

One solution I would suggest is to atleast decide in the SC ST people who should get the quota and who should not. Like our friend Vipul pointed out some very rich SC ST candidates. So it is the duty of the Govt to at least prevent such people from getting these benefits who have all the means with them. It s otherwise in the present case a tight slap to the so called econonmic and social equality. We can have the quota system but only 10% and that too to the people who are the needy ones. Those who live in villages and dont have access to good living. Bring them foreward. But dont give wings to those who are already flying. This will crash down the whole nation as MIG....
